Hardoi Student Complains Principal Objected to Tilak

A law student in Hardoi has filed a formal complaint, alleging his college principal objected to him wearing a ’tilak’ on his forehead. The student claims the principal made objectionable remarks and prevented him from attending classes, leading to mental distress and academic issues. District officials confirm an inquiry is underway.

Student Files Complaint

Amit Yadav , a first-semester law student at BN Degree College in Shahabad, lodged the complaint. Yadav submitted his grievance during the ‘Tehsil Samadhan Diwas’ on Saturday . He accused Principal Umar of targeting his religious mark.

A tilak is a mark worn on the forehead, often signifying religious devotion or cultural identity in Hinduism. Yadav stated the principal’s actions constituted a violation of his religious freedom.

Allegations of Discrimination

Yadav’s complaint details specific remarks made by Principal Umar. The principal allegedly told Yadav, “this is BN Degree College, not a gurukul.” Yadav claims these comments deeply hurt his religious sentiments.

Following the incident, Yadav states he could not complete his LLB first-semester examination form . The submission deadline for this form was December 20 . This inability to submit the form has created academic uncertainty for Yadav.

Yadav seeks legal action against Principal Umar. He also demanded immediate relief to ensure he can submit his examination form without further delay.

Principal Denies Claims

Principal Umar has strongly denied all allegations. He stated he never stopped any student from wearing a tilak. Umar also denied making any objectionable remarks against students or their religious practices.

Official Inquiry Initiated

Ankit Tiwari , the Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) Shahabad, confirmed receipt of Yadav’s complaint. Tiwari stated an official inquiry into the matter is ongoing. He added that necessary action will follow based on the findings of this probe.

VHP Stages Protest

Members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) staged a protest at BN Degree College on Saturday . The protest occurred immediately after Yadav filed his complaint. VHP members warned against religious discrimination within educational institutions.

The organization threatened further agitation if similar incidents continue. They emphasized the importance of religious freedom for all students.
