BITS Pilani Receives $1M Donation for Female Students, Projects

BITS Pilani alumnus Brij Bhushan donated USD 1 million to the institute. This endowment supports female students and promotes faculty-guided student projects. Endowment Details and Purpose

The USD 1 million endowment establishes a fund for two primary purposes. First, it provides financial support to meritorious female students from low-income backgrounds. Second, it encourages innovation among students through academic mentorship programs and faculty-supervised projects.

BITS Pilani stated the fund will strengthen academic engagement beyond traditional classroom settings. It also aligns with the institute’s broader efforts to expand financial aid opportunities for its student body.

Donor Profile: Brij Bhushan

Brij Bhushan founded Reston Consulting Group (RCG). He is a member of BITS Pilani’s inaugural 1960 batch. Bhushan worked for 24 years in the US telecommunications corporate sector before establishing RCG in 1987.

RCG provides various services. These include network operations, maintenance, cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, and IT support. The firm serves government and commercial clients across the United States.

Institute’s Broader Financial Goals

The institute aims to develop into a global higher education institution. As part of this plan, BITS Pilani launched an endowment fund with a target of USD 100 million . This new donation supplements existing scholarship schemes and student-led innovation initiatives.

BITS Pilani also highlighted recent improvements in its national and international rankings. The institute cited strong performance in areas like academic reputation, research output, and student outcomes.

Leadership Acknowledgment

Vice-Chancellor V Ramgopal Rao acknowledged the donation. Rao praised Brij Bhushan and Champa Bhushan for their commitment. He noted their contributions to academic and alumni engagement, including providing valuable expertise through teaching on campus.
