An 18-year-old psychology student was found dead at her Lucknow home on Tuesday . Police suspect suicide, officials stated.
The deceased was identified as Upasana Sheel , a first-year BA psychology student at Maharishi University. Her body was discovered around 11 AM Tuesday in her room.
The incident occurred in Vashisht Puram, under Jankipuram police station limits.
Investigation Details
Police received information about a young woman allegedly hanging herself. A team was dispatched to the spot. Upasana was found suspended from a ceiling fan, using a dupatta.
Family members last saw Upasana between 11 PM and midnight Monday . They found her at 11 AM Tuesday , when her room’s door was opened. Her family cut the noose to bring her down, police reported.
Senior police officers inspected the scene. Preliminary inquiry showed Upasana was undergoing treatment for depression, her family stated. Legal proceedings are underway.
