JGU, UTokyo Conclave 2025: Boosting India-Japan Education

OP Jindal Global University (JGU) is hosting the India-Japan Higher Education Conclave 2025. This six-day program features a high-level delegation from the University of Tokyo (UTokyo). The conclave takes place across three Indian cities: New Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru.

JGU states the event marks a new phase in academic cooperation between the two institutions. It also aims to strengthen broader India-Japan higher education engagement. The conclave’s central theme is “Future of Global Education: India and Japan as Leaders of Knowledge and Innovation.”

The conclave will outline long-term strategies for internationalization. It focuses on developing joint plans for teaching and research between India and Japan. This initiative seeks to deepen educational ties and foster collaborative innovation.

Delegation Engagements and Program Models

During its visit, the UTokyo delegation will participate in several key activities. These include policy dialogues, university interactions, and regulatory meetings. The delegates will also engage in discussions with various stakeholders across the education sector.

Specific sessions will examine various models for academic partnership. These include joint and dual degree programs. They will also explore short-term mobility pathways for students and faculty exchange initiatives. Co-taught courses and hybrid learning formats are also on the agenda.

Both JGU and UTokyo are actively assessing new opportunities. They seek comparative research projects and collaborative ventures. These projects will span multiple academic disciplines, aiming for shared knowledge creation and innovation.

Priorities for Academic Pathways

The UTokyo delegation’s India tour will conclude on December 12, 2025 . JGU expects this visit to result in a detailed roadmap. This document will outline specific next steps for collaboration between JGU and UTokyo.

JGU’s Vision for Long-Term Collaboration

The UTokyo delegation was led by Kaori Hayashi, Executive Vice President for Global and Diversity Affairs. Key members included Yujin Yaguchi, Vice President (Global Education) and Director of the Centre for Global Education (GlobE).

Satsuki Shioyama, Project Research Associate at GlobE, also served as a delegate. Akhil Bhardwaj, JGU Vice Dean for International Affairs & Global Initiatives, spoke about the tour’s impact.

Bhardwaj stated the tri-city tour will lay strong foundations for long-term collaboration. He highlighted faculty exchange and student mobility programs. Co-created initiatives connecting universities, industry, and government stakeholders are also a priority.

He emphasized building pathways that benefit learners and researchers in both countries. This will be achieved through a spirit of mutual respect and co-design. JGU’s aim is to foster truly collaborative and beneficial educational relationships.
