NEET PG 2025 Round 2: Choice Filling Deadline Extended, Results Postponed

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has extended the deadline for the NEET PG 2025 Round 2 All India Quota (AIQ) counselling choice filling to December 12 . This extension directly impacts candidates applying for postgraduate medical seats across India. The decision follows the addition of 2,620 new postgraduate medical seats, increasing the total available seats to 32,080. Consequently, the Round 2 seat allotment result, initially set for December 12 , has been postponed to a later date.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) is the primary entrance examination for medical graduates seeking admission to MD, MS, and diploma courses. The MCC conducts the counselling process to allocate these postgraduate medical seats based on candidate merit and preferences. The All India Quota (AIQ) covers a significant portion of these seats, allowing candidates from across the country to compete.

Candidates participating in the second round must complete their choice filling and lock their preferences on the official website,mcc.nic.in, by December 12 . The choice filling facility was originally scheduled to close earlier, but the MCC granted a three-day extension. This extension allows candidates more time to consider the newly added seats and make informed decisions.

The MCC recently expanded the total pool of available postgraduate medical seats for the 2025 academic session. An additional 2,620 new seats are now included in the Round 2 counselling process. This increase brings the total number of postgraduate medical seats available through the MCC counselling to 32,080 across various medical colleges and institutions nationwide.

Information for PwD Candidates

A dedicated portal for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates is now active. This portal will remain open until December 12 at 4 pm . PwD candidates must obtain a specific disability certificate to confirm their eligibility for reserved seats. These certificates must come from designated disability centres approved by the MCC, in line with National Medical Commission (NMC) norms. This step ensures fair and accurate assessment of eligibility for special category admissions.

NEET PG 2025 Round 1 Resignation Facility

The MCC has also opened a facility for candidates to resign from seats allotted in Round 1 of counselling. This option became available from December 8 at 4 pm and will close on December 10 at 6 pm . This temporary window addresses specific requests from several states. These states reported delays in completing their own Round 1 counselling processes.

Furthermore, many postgraduate candidates requested the ability to resign their MCC-allotted Round 1 seats. This often happens when candidates secure a preferred position through state counselling rounds after initially accepting an AIQ seat. The MCC facilitated this in the “larger interest of the candidates.”

The primary purpose of this resignation window is to ensure maximum seat utilization. Resigned seats will become available for other eligible candidates in Round 2 of the AIQ counselling. This mechanism prevents valuable medical seats from remaining vacant. Medical colleges have a crucial role in this process. They must update the details of candidates who have vacated their allotted seats on the intramcc portal within the specified timeframe. Failure to update these details will result in the resignations being treated as “null and void.”
