Eligibility Requirements for JEE Advanced 2026

Admission to engineering programs at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) depends on meeting specific eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2026. Candidates must first qualify the JEE Main 2026 examination. Only the top 2.5 lakh candidates from JEE Main 2026, across both Session 1 and Session 2, become eligible to apply for JEE Advanced. This eligibility pool includes candidates from all reservation categories.

Specific age criteria apply. Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2000 . There is an age relaxation for reserved categories. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) receive a five-year age relaxation. This makes candidates born on or after October 1, 1995, eligible within these categories.

Academic qualification is also mandatory. Candidates must have passed their Class 12 (or equivalent) examination in either the year 2024 or 2025 . Those who cleared Class 12 in 2023 or earlier years are generally not eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2026. This rule ensures recent academic qualification.
