About This Scholarship
The Wise Fellowship for Ph.D. (WISE-PhD) 2024 is a significant opportunity offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under its ‘Women in Science and Engineering-KIRAN (WISE-KIRAN)’ scheme. This initiative aims to empower women scientists and technologists, aged 27 to 45 years, to pursue doctoral research in Basic and Applied Sciences. It specifically targets those who aspire to become bench-level scientists in various STEM fields.
The fellowship spans across five critical scientific disciplines:
• Physical & Mathematical Sciences
• Chemical Sciences
• Life Sciences
• Earth & Atmospheric Sciences
• Engineering & Technology
Successful candidates will receive a substantial monthly stipend of ₹31,000, along with other valuable benefits including HRA as per norms, an annual research grant of ₹1,00,000, and a fixed annual overhead of ₹50,000. The application process for this fellowship runs throughout the year, offering flexibility for prospective applicants.
The selection process involves a preliminary screening of submitted project proposals. A final selection is then made based on the recommendations provided by Subject Expert Committees (SECs). The ultimate decision from DST will be communicated to applicants after all necessary administrative and financial approvals have been secured.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, an applicant must:-
• be an Indian citizen
• be a woman candidate between the ages of 27 to 45 years old (Note: Relaxation of 3 years in the upper age limit will be made for candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PH category).
• hold a postgraduate degree in Basic/Applied Science such as M.Phil., M.Tech., M. Pharm., and other related fields, or a B.Tech. degree
Note:-
• It is mandatory to register for a Ph.D. degree within 6 months of receiving the recommendation letter.
• Women in regular employment are not eligible for the WISE-PhD program.

4. Step 4: Fill in all the required details and complete the registration.
5. Step 5: Now, follow the prescribed proposal format to create a proposal and submit it to complete the application.
