DU Elects Court Members; UG Admissions Hit 72K; Ranks Rise

Delhi University has elected seven members unopposed to its University Court for a five-year term, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh announced. The university also reported 72,230 undergraduate admissions for the 2025-26 academic year, exceeding its sanctioned seat capacity. These key updates were shared during the 93rd DU Court meeting.

University Court Members Elected Unopposed

The election for the University Court was conducted on November 28 . This process was governed by Statute 2(1)(xvii) and Statute 2(1)(xviii) of the University Statutes. Seven posts were open for professionals in fields such as law, medicine, engineering and technology, and auditing and accountancy. Additionally, four positions out of six were to be elected from industry and commerce.

Vice-Chancellor Singh confirmed that only seven applications were received for the seven available posts from the specified professions. Consequently, all seven candidates were elected unopposed. Their five-year terms will officially begin on December 16, 2025 .

Undergraduate and Postgraduate Admissions Exceed Targets

During the DU Court meeting, the Vice-Chancellor reported on the university’s admission figures for the 2025-26 academic year. Delhi University offers a total of 71,624 undergraduate (UG) seats . These seats are distributed across 69 colleges and 79 programmes affiliated with DU.

At the conclusion of the admissions process, Delhi University successfully admitted 72,230 students into its undergraduate programmes. This figure surpassed the initial sanctioned intake, demonstrating strong student interest in DU’s offerings. While some specific programmes experienced vacant seats, the overall admissions exceeded capacity.

For postgraduate (PG) programmes, the university has enrolled 10,457 students for the current academic year.

Academic Staff Recruitment

The university continues to bolster its academic staff. Vice-Chancellor Singh informed the Court that Delhi University has recruited 4,936 academic positions to date. This ongoing recruitment drive supports the university’s educational and research initiatives.

Delhi University’s Global Ranking Achievements

Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh reiterated Delhi University’s strategic goal: to secure a position among the top 100 universities worldwide. Recent rankings highlight DU’s progress towards this ambition.

In the QS World University Rankings, Delhi University achieved the 30th position globally for Employment and Outcomes. This ranking places DU as the leading Indian institution in this critical category. The university’s overall QS global ranking for the current year stands at 328 .

The 93rd DU Court meeting saw attendance from key university officials, including Director of South Campus Rajini Abbi, Dean of Colleges Balram Pani, and Treasurer Naval Kishore, alongside other court members.
