AJSU Students Protest Ranchi Over Delayed Post-Matric Scholarships

RANCHI – The students’ wing of the AJSU Party will conduct a protest march in Ranchi to demand the immediate release of post-matric scholarships for thousands of students. The organization announced the ‘Janakrosh March’ on Wednesday, citing prolonged delays in scholarship disbursement.

The rally will begin at Bapu Vatika in Morabadi Ground. Participants will march towards Raj Bhavan. A delegation from the AJSU Party Students’ Union will submit a memorandum to the Governor. The memorandum seeks gubernatorial intervention to resolve the scholarship issue.

Scholarship Delays Alleged

Om Verma, president of the AJSU Party Students’ Union, addressed a press conference at the party’s central office in Ranchi on Wednesday. He alleged that lakhs of students across Jharkhand have been waiting for several months. These students belong to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) categories.

The pending funds are for the post-matric scholarships for the 2024-25 academic session. Post-matric scholarships provide financial assistance to students from marginalized communities. These funds support their education beyond matriculation, enabling access to higher studies.

Impact on Students

Verma provided specific figures regarding the scholarship distribution. He stated that approximately 11.34 lakh students were eligible to receive these scholarships. However, only a fraction has received any payment.

According to Verma’s statement, only 7.45 lakh students have received partial payments. This leaves a significant number of students with outstanding financial aid. More than 3.5 lakh OBC students have not yet received their first scholarship installment.

Scholarship Disbursement Status

Category Number of Students (Lakhs) Status
Total Eligible Students 11.34 Expected to receive scholarships
Students Received Partial Payment 7.45 Incomplete disbursement
OBC Students Awaiting First Installment >3.50 No payment received

Demands for Intervention and Transparency

The delegation’s memorandum to the Governor outlines two primary demands. First, it urges the Governor to intervene directly in the matter. This intervention seeks the prompt release of all pending scholarships.

Second, the union will request the Governor to direct the state government. This directive would compel the government to display the status of all pending scholarship applications. The status information should be accessible on the e-Kalyan portal. This measure aims to ensure transparency in the scholarship distribution process.

The AJSU Party Students’ Union emphasizes the critical need for these scholarships. Delays impact students’ ability to continue their education. The protest aims to highlight these issues and secure necessary funds for the affected student population in Jharkhand.
