About This Scholarship

Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) invites nominations for the SERB Research Scientists Scheme 2020 from INSPIRE Faculty and Ramanujan Fellows. This scheme offers opportunities for young scientists to initiate and sustain research careers in various fields of science and engineering. These schemes do not offer an extension of the fellowship after completion of five years.

Selected candidates will receive a consolidated emolument of INR 1,20,000 per month and other substantial benefits to support their research.

The grants provided under this scheme are:
Emolument: Consolidated amount of INR 1,20,000 per month
Research Grant: INR 7,00,000 per annum
Overheads: INR 1,00,000 per annum
All amounts are inclusive.

Applications for the SRS scheme are accepted throughout the year for eligible INSPIRE Faculty and Ramanujan Fellows.

The application will be evaluated by a Selection Committee specifically constituted for this purpose. This committee may consider the performance evaluation conducted by relevant subject expert committees during the tenure of the INSPIRE Faculty/Ramanujan Fellowship Scheme. If deemed necessary, applicants may be invited for a personal interview as part of the selection process.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the SERB Research Scientists Scheme 2020, an applicant must fulfill the following criteria:

• Be an INSPIRE faculty or a Ramanujan fellow.
• Not be more than 40 years of age at the time of application submission.
• Have completed or be nearing completion of the tenure of INSPIRE Faculty of DST or Ramanujan Fellowship of SERB.
Note: The application must be submitted within six months before or after the completion of the regular tenure of these respective schemes.

Important Note: This scheme can only be availed once by a candidate throughout their career.

Required Documents

Applicants for the SERB Research Scientists Scheme 2020 must submit the following documents, ensuring they are in the prescribed format:

Bio-data of the applicant.
Age Proof Certificate.
Qualification Certificate.
Award Letter (specifically for INSPIRE Faculty / Ramanujan Fellow).
• The completed Application form.
Undertaking Certificate signed by the applicant.
Endorsement Certificate from the Host Institute.

Step 3: Download the prescribed format of the nomination form from Annexure-I, which can be found on the official website.

Step 4: Carefully fill in all the required details in the nomination form. Ensure all supporting documents, as listed in the "Required Documents" section, are properly attached and in the correct format.

Step 5: Prepare three physical copies of the completed nomination form along with all the necessary supporting documents. Submit these copies via postal service to the following address:
