Delhi School Suicide: Student Accuses Teachers, FIR Filed

A 16-year-old student from St. Columba’s School in Delhi died by suicide after allegedly enduring months of mental harassment by his teachers. Following his death, students and parents gathered outside the private school in Ashok Place, protesting the alleged mistreatment. Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on the family’s accusations.

Protest Erupts

The protest outside the private boys’ school saw guardians and fellow students demanding justice for the deceased Class 10 student, Shourya Patil. They held placards and chanted “we want justice,” accusing teachers of continuous mental harassment. The demonstration focused on seeking accountability for Shourya’s death.

Incident Details

Shourya Patil, a 16-year-old student, died after jumping from the Rajendra Place metro station in the afternoon. He left behind a suicide note found in his school bag. This note clearly named the teachers he alleged were responsible for his distress.

Police Register FIR

Delhi Police immediately registered an FIR in connection with Shourya Patil’s death. The FIR details alleged incidents of mental harassment endured by the student. The investigation is ongoing based on the family’s complaints.

Family’s Allegations Surface

Shourya’s father informed police that his son frequently complained about the behavior of several teachers and the school’s principal. The report, accessed by Careers360, clearly states the names of these individuals. Despite verbal complaints, the harassment from the teachers and school head reportedly continued.

The father asserted that at least four teachers subjected Shourya to repeated harassment. This included alleged threats of suspension, physical assault, and public insults in front of fellow students. One teacher reportedly told Shourya, “cry as much as you want, I don’t care,” according to the FIR.

Suicide Note Reveals Distress

Police found a crucial suicide note within Shourya’s school bag. In the note, Shourya expressed apologies to his parents for his actions. He wrote, “I am very sorry I did this, but the school people said so much to me that I had to do it.”

The note also included a request for organ donation, stating, “If any part of my body works or is in a condition to work, please donate it to someone who truly needs it.” Shourya apologized to his family, writing, “Sorry, Mom, I hurt your heart so many times—now I will break it one last time.”

Shourya’s final wish, as expressed in the note, was for action against the accused teachers. He stated, “My last wish is that action be taken against them. I want no other child to do something like me… I am sorry, but the teachers of St. Columba’s did this to me.” The note directly attributed his actions to the alleged mistreatment by school staff.
