Delhi Student Suicide: Class 10 Boy Alleges Teacher Harassment

A 16-year-old Class 10 student died by suicide on Tuesday afternoon in central Delhi. Police reported the student jumped from the platform of Rajendra Place Metro Station at 2:34 PM. He left a suicide note alleging prolonged mental harassment by teachers at his private school.

The Incident

The student, whose identity has not been released, attended a private school. He was transported to BLK Hospital nearby, where medical staff declared him dead. He had left his home on Tuesday morning, reportedly excited for a drama club session. Police received the first call informing them about the incident at 2:45 PM.

Suicide Note Details Allegations

Police recovered a suicide note at the scene. The note began with the boy identifying himself and asking readers to call a specific number. It explicitly stated that continuous scolding by school staff pushed him to commit suicide. He named a few teachers in the note, blaming them for the mental harassment he endured.

The student apologized to his parents and elder brother. He wrote, “Sorry bhaiya, for all the time I was rude to you,” and to his mother, “Sorry mummy, however many times I broke your heart, I am going to do it for the last time.” He also expressed gratitude toward his parents and guilt for not doing more for them. His last wish, detailed in the note, was for action to be taken against those responsible. He wrote, “I don’t want any other kid to go through this.”

The note also contained a request for organ donation. “Give my organs to those in need,” he wrote, asking that if any organs remained functional after the fall, they should be donated to help someone else. Police confirmed they are examining the allegations and content of the note.

Father Reports Months of Harassment

The student’s father alleged his son had been struggling for months with his treatment at school. He reported to PTI that teachers “scolded him for every small thing and emotionally hurt him.” The parents verbally complained multiple times to the school staff, but the alleged behavior never stopped, according to the father.

The family had avoided taking stronger formal action as Class 10 examinations were approaching. The father stated that 20 marks for the final grade come from school assessment, and he did not want to “disturb anything.” He confirmed the family had assured the boy they would admit him to a different school once the exams were completed.

On Tuesday, the boy stayed back for his drama club session. His father stated that an incident there deeply upset him. “In his drama class, he slipped and fell,” the father reported. “The teacher pushed him and insulted him in front of everyone and said he was overacting.” The father added that the teachers scolded him until he started crying, but the teacher allegedly told him “they did not care how much he cried.”

The father also mentioned prior incidents. He stated that classmates had told him a teacher had been threatening the boy, saying they would issue a transfer certificate and call his parents. This treatment was reportedly not isolated, affecting “three to four more kids.” The boy was described as good at studies and had recently participated in a dance competition, expressing interest in theatre and dance. His parents were in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, for his mother’s operation on November 18.

Police Investigate Allegations

A senior police officer confirmed the allegations and content of the suicide note are under examination. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death is ongoing. No arrests or specific actions against school staff have been reported at this time.
