LUCKNOW – Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh recently directed officials to prioritize comprehensive access to quality education, proper facilities, and safe learning environments for all students across the state. Speaking at a departmental review in Lucknow, Singh declared that any obstacles hindering student learning or development would not be tolerated by the administration.
Commitment to Quality and Facilities
During a departmental progress review held at Yojana Bhawan on Monday, Minister Singh called for unwavering dedication from all educational staff members. He specifically underscored the necessity of providing standard facilities, particularly for girl students, and ensuring equitable treatment for all teachers. Singh emphasized hard work, stating that “comfort can become a silent obstacle” to progress.
The Minister reiterated the government’s core commitment to strengthening foundational education. “Quality education, smooth facilities, and a safe learning environment must remain top priorities,” Singh stated. He instructed officials within the Basic Education Department to guarantee that a financial aid of ₹1,200 reaches every eligible parent. This direct benefit transfer (DBT) is designated to cover the cost of children’s school uniforms, aiming to reduce financial burdens on families.
Enhancing Girls’ Education and Safety
Minister Singh placed a special emphasis on the welfare and education of girls enrolled in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) , which are residential schools for girls from disadvantaged sections. He mandated stringent, regular inspection of all activities within these schools to ensure high standards and address any issues promptly. To foster a supportive environment, Singh directed women officers to conduct separate and private communications with girl students, allowing them to voice concerns without hesitation.
Furthermore, the Minister stressed the urgent need to fill all vacant teaching and administrative posts within KGBVs on a priority basis. This directive aims to ensure adequate staffing and continuous educational support for the students, preventing disruptions caused by staff shortages.
Fair Treatment and Teacher Morale
Addressing administrative procedures concerning educators, Minister Singh issued clear directives regarding disciplinary actions. He advised officials against hastily issuing show-cause notices to teachers for minor delays, specifically those ranging from 15 to 20 minutes. Instead, he mandated that any decision regarding punitive measures must follow a thorough inquiry, allowing teachers an opportunity to present logical reasons for their delay.
Singh underscored that action should only be initiated when the cause for a delay is demonstrably unreasonable. The Minister explicitly emphasized the critical importance of maintaining high teacher morale, stating unequivocally that under no circumstances should teachers’ spirits be allowed to decline. This approach seeks to foster a more understanding and supportive work environment for educators.
The directives aim to streamline the basic education system in Uttar Pradesh, focusing on student well-being, infrastructural improvements, and support for teaching staff to achieve comprehensive educational access for all.
