India Education News: POSH, Russia Scholarships, Nursing

New Delhi – The National Commission for Women (NCW) is pushing for stricter implementation of the POSH Act, 2013, in educational institutions. Concurrently, Russia has announced 300 scholarships for Indian students for the 2026-27 academic year, while a three-day national workshop on nursing policy concluded in New Delhi.

NCW Urges POSH Act Compliance in Educational Institutions

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has urged Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) across India to fully implement the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSH) Act, 2013. This directive follows a recent letter from the NCW aimed at strengthening legal compliance within educational settings.

To support this initiative, the NCW launched the ‘Campus Calling Programme’ in collaboration with Yuvamanthan. The program aims to conduct 800 training and awareness sessions nationwide. These sessions will focus on legal literacy, digital safety, and leadership skills for students.

HEIs must submit a status report on their POSH Act implementation for the 2024-25 academic year. This report should detail the establishment of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) and existing redressal mechanisms. Institutions should preferably submit these reports through the UGC SAKSHAM Portal.

The NCW also requires HEIs to ensure active participation of faculty and staff in its training programs. Additionally, institutions must strengthen internal monitoring of their POSH mechanisms to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness.
