CHANDIGARH – Panjab University (PU) has withdrawn its controversial “no-protest affidavit” requirement for students. The decision, made on Tuesday evening , followed a seven-day agitation by students.
Student leaders immediately called off their protests across the campus. Panjab University Campus Students’ Council General Secretary Abhishek Dagar also ended his seven-day hunger strike , stating, “It is a victory of every student of PU.”
Policy Reversal Details
The university confirmed the policy reversal in an official statement. It specified the withdrawal of the “affidavit/undertaking requirement for students enrolled in first year courses or programs for the 2025-2026 session .” This move brought an end to the student unrest.
PU authorities explained the decision aims to serve the “larger interest of students.” It also seeks “to ensure that academic activities continue smoothly on the campus.” As part of the resolution, agitating students agreed to withdraw their legal case related to the issue.
