NCERT, IIT Madras Partner for AI-Driven Education Research

NEW DELHI – The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to advance educational research and integrate technology within India’s schooling system. Officials announced the partnership will focus on leveraging advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), to improve learning access, promote inclusivity, and enhance educational quality.

Strengthening National Education Goals

The collaboration directly supports the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) and the National Curriculum Framework. School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar stated that digital content is essential. He emphasized the need for educational materials to be available in all 22 scheduled languages, supporting instruction in children’s mother tongues.

Kumar identified IIT Madras as a leader in information technology. He highlighted the need for new content formats. These include gamification, animation, videos, and extended reality (XR) applications. These tools will create engaging and interactive learning experiences for students.

Advanced Learning Solutions

The partnership will develop Personalized Adaptive Learning (PAL) systems. PAL tailors educational content to individual student needs and learning paces. Mr. Kumar also stressed the creation of robust pedagogical and technological tools. These tools will support the design and use of lesson plans and assessments. They will integrate AI functionalities and address future skills required for students.

NCERT Chairman Dinesh Saklani described the collaboration as a significant step. He stated it helps realize NEP 2020’s goal of using technology for accessible and inclusive education. The agreement outlines specific areas of focus.

Key Collaboration Areas

The partnership between NCERT and IIT Madras will concentrate on five primary areas:

  • Development and Dissemination of High-Quality Educational Content: This involves creating and distributing advanced digital learning materials. Content will be engaging, accurate, and aligned with national curriculum standards.
  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of Teachers: Programs will train teachers in integrating new technologies and modern pedagogical methods. This ensures educators are equipped to use AI/ML tools effectively.
  • Technology Integration and AI/ML-Enabled Learning Solutions: NCERT and IIT Madras will develop and implement innovative technological solutions. These solutions will use AI and ML to personalize learning, automate assessments, and provide adaptive content.
  • Collaborative Research, Big Data Management, and Analytics: Joint research projects will explore new educational technologies. The partnership will also manage and analyze large datasets related to student learning and educational outcomes. This data will inform policy and content development.
  • Promotion of Multilingual and Inclusive Learning Platforms: The initiative aims to create educational platforms that support diverse linguistic backgrounds. This ensures all students, regardless of their mother tongue, can access quality education.

This agreement marks a strategic move towards a technologically advanced and equitable education system in India. It seeks to equip students with future-ready skills and provide educators with modern tools.
