AICTE Validates NIOS Qualifications: Admissions Cannot Be Denied

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has directed all higher education institutions nationwide to accept qualifications from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Institutions cannot deny admissions to students based on their NIOS certificates. This advisory follows complaints from students rejected despite meeting eligibility criteria.

AICTE issued the directive to ensure fair access to education. The Council mandates that NIOS students receive equal treatment to those from other boards. This includes the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), and various state boards.

Denying admission to NIOS students violates established rules. AICTE stated such actions contravene the National Education Policy (NEP) guidelines. They also undermine students’ fundamental rights to pursue higher and professional education across India. The advisory emphasizes adherence to NEP 2020 directives for fair admissions.

AICTE explicitly clarified NIOS’s official status. The National Institute of Open Schooling is an autonomous institution. It operates directly under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. This status grants NIOS qualifications parity with other recognized national and state school boards.

NIOS offers flexible learning options. It specializes in open and distance education. This model allows students to complete their schooling without mandatory regular attendance. It ensures equal opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to access and pursue higher education. Certificates issued by NIOS are nationally recognized for admission to undergraduate, graduate, and professional courses.

Warning on Fake Websites

In a separate public notice, NIOS also warned students about fraudulent online activities. The Institute identified several fake websites and mobile applications. These platforms provide misleading information and copy content from the official NIOS website. Their purpose is to deceive users for fraudulent intentions.

NIOS urged all students and stakeholders to exercise caution. The official and only reliable source for all NIOS-related information is its designated website: https://nios.ac.in . Students should verify all information exclusively through this official portal.

Students encountering fake websites or applications must report them. NIOS established a dedicated email for this purpose. Reports should be sent to sap@nios.ac.in . This action helps combat misinformation and protects other students from fraudulent schemes.
