DURGAPUR, WEST BENGAL – Police conducted a crime scene reconstruction Tuesday for an alleged gang rape. Investigators brought five arrested accused and the survivor’s friend to the site. The reconstruction occurred in a jungle area near the Paranaganj Kali Bari cremation ground.

Crime Scene Reconstruction Underway

West Bengal Police officers directed the five accused individuals and the survivor’s friend to reenact events. The alleged crime occurred at the same location on Friday night. The entire reconstruction process was videographed.

An investigating officer confirmed the purpose of the reconstruction. Police will compare the recorded video with statements from the accused, the survivor’s friend, and the victim. This process aims to verify details and consolidate evidence for the ongoing probe.

Before the reconstruction, investigators questioned the survivor’s friend for approximately one hour. This interrogation provided additional context for the events leading up to the alleged crime.

Evidence Collection and Forensic Analysis

Earlier on Tuesday morning, police took two of the five arrested accused to their residences. Officers searched the homes to locate any evidence the individuals might have concealed. During these searches, police seized clothes from the duo’s residences. Investigators believe these clothes were worn by the accused during the alleged incident.

Police previously seized clothing from the other three arrested accused. All seized garments will be sent for forensic examination. Forensic results will provide crucial evidence to aid the investigation. Additionally, police seized mobile phones from all five arrested individuals. These devices are also undergoing forensic analysis.

Background Checks and Medical Examinations

Investigators are also examining the backgrounds of the five arrested accused. This check aims to determine if any of them have a history of involvement in past criminal activities. Specific details regarding their identities and occupations have emerged:

  • One accused is a former security guard at the private medical college.
  • Another accused currently works at a different hospital.
  • A third accused is a temporary worker for the local civic body.
  • The fourth accused is unemployed.

Later on Tuesday, the five arrested accused underwent medical examinations. These examinations are a standard part of criminal investigations to collect further evidence.

Broader Investigation Efforts

The alleged gang rape involves a second-year medical student from Odisha’s Jaleswar. The incident reportedly took place outside the campus of a private medical college in Durgapur. Beyond the reconstruction and evidence collection, police are expanding their probe. Officers are questioning fellow students of the survivor. These interviews seek to gather additional information relevant to the case.
